Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach me at info@martingardens.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Yes, I have RHS Level 2 Certificates in:

The Principles of Plant Growth and Development

Practical Horticulture

I am a member of The Gardeners Guild (TGG), a national trade network for qualified gardeners. TGG maintains a register of certified gardeners who offer garden and grounds maintenance as part of their services. TGG members must hold at least one government endorsed horticultural qualification equal to Ofqual Level 2 Certificate or higher and are required to abide by the terms of membership. As a client of Martin Gardens, you can be confident that you have chosen a gardener who has been officially trained and formally assessed to meet high horticultural standards.

Yes, I have business liability insurance which covers any accidental damage.

I charge hourly for all services. Please get in touch to find out rates. For non-gardening services, such as creating maintenance plans, disposal of excess waste, tool sharpening, we can discuss one-off prices.

Concessionary rates available for older adults and people with reduced mobility.

I provide a maintenance and consultancy service. This means that I'm happy to produce planting schemes for your garden. However, I don’t take on hard landscaping work. And I don't produce full spec computer-aided design (CAD). I can do my best to recommend someone that might help for such jobs.

No, I'll bring and use my own tools. I am used to doing small urban gardens, and don't currently have a large vehicle. This means that I have a small mains-powered lawnmower, so might ask to plug an extension lead into your power supply. My hedge trimmers, grass trimmer and strimmer are all battery-operated.

No. I avoid doing any height work and am not trained in tree surgery. I'll happily prune fruit trees to maximise the next harvest's yield, but won't take on large scale tree work.

Yes, though this will come at an extra cost to cover my time to travel to and from the recycling centre. It will depend on the quantity and my capacity. We can discuss when I come to assess the work.

If you want me to source and order or collect things for you, I can do so for an extra cost to cover my time. For some items I can get a trade discount, so it's worth us discussing so that you get the best deal.

I'll get something more comprehensive onto the website at some point, but I can certainly help you consider wildlife in your garden plans if you'd like. One of the most beneficial things I've done in my own garden is to establish a pond, which has since attracted a myriad of insects, damselflies and, recently, frogs. Other than that - and providing shelter for creatures - much will depend on what you'd like, and the layout of your garden.
